How to Pack a Photo Crystal for Moving or Gifting
By Giftenova Team – Published October 23, 2026
Illustration of packing decisions, not the supplied box, a packing test or a guarantee of protection.
Pack the glass separately from any powered stand and loose accessories, check the retained box rather than assuming it is shipment-ready, and use carrier guidance for an onward parcel. The right packing depends on who handles the crystal on the way, so start there.
The two cases on this page are illustrations, not customer stories or packing tests.
Start with the journey and the pieces you actually have
First decide whether you will carry the crystal yourself or hand it to a carrier, then list the glass, any stand and the accessories you actually have. A crystal you hold or keep beside you on a short local trip stays under your control. A parcel carrier or a moving truck is not supervised by you, so a box that suits a careful local carry is not automatically ready to ship.
If a moving company is transporting it, separate and protect the pieces the same way, then follow the mover's own packing instructions. The UPS guidance cited further down is written for shipments handed to UPS, not for household moves.
| Piece | What to note | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Photo crystal | Solid glass, rectangle or heart | Always protected on its own |
| LED Stand or Rotating LED Stand | Optional; runs on batteries or USB | Packed apart from the glass |
| Cable or other accessories | Only what you actually have | Kept together so none is lost |
| Original crystal box | Present, intact, still fits? | Checked before you reuse it |
| Stand batteries | Fitted? Type known? | Unknown type: check before shipping |
A cable or batteries may or may not be with your stand, so record only what is in front of you.
If a stand is lit, switch it off using the instructions for that stand. Unplugging the USB cable does not by itself show that a stand running on batteries is off. Then lift the crystal off the stand before moving either piece, and never carry the glass by its stand.
The 3D crystal photo block guide explains the keepsake and its display choices.
Two example situations run through the rest of this guide:
- Case A is a crystal on its own, in its original box with any insert it came with, carried by you on a short local trip.
- Case B is a crystal with a Rotating LED Stand, no usable box, sent to a relative by carrier, with the stand's battery details unknown.
Check the original box and protect each component
Reuse the original crystal box only after checking its condition and fit; keep the glass, stand and loose accessories individually protected so they cannot rub or strike each other.
Each crystal we ship comes in a dedicated 3D-crystal box made for gifting and storage. It is not described as a shipping carton for a parcel you send on, so check it the same way whatever journey you plan:
- Look for crushed corners, splits, damp marks or a lid that no longer closes.
- Check that the crystal sits in any insert it came with without forcing, and that the lid closes without pressing on the glass.
- Judge the box by looking and fitting only; shaking or dropping it is not a test.
If the box or insert is missing, damaged or no longer fits, do not cut a new slot or push the crystal into a gap. Protect the glass another way, or ask a packing service to pack it for you.
Wrap the glass, the stand and any loose accessories as separate bundles, so a hard base or a cable plug cannot rub against the polished glass. Use a clean, soft layer next to the glass, and keep tape off the glass and the stand themselves.
If the glass needs cleaning before packing, follow the crystal care and cleaning guide and keep moisture away from the powered base.
In Case A, the box is intact, the crystal sits in its insert without force and the lid closes cleanly, so it can travel in that box while you carry it. If any check fails, protect the glass another way before you set off. Passing these checks still does not make the box ready for a carrier.
Case B starts without a usable box, so its protection is decided together with the outer package below.
Prepare a separate outer package for a carrier
A carrier shipment needs an outer package chosen for the packed item and its weight; a gift box alone does not establish that the crystal is ready to ship.
The UPS general packaging guidance separates these jobs. It asks shippers to wrap items separately, use a rigid box strong enough for the weight, add adequate cushioning and fill empty space to limit movement, and it describes a box-within-a-box method for fragile goods. UPS also advises against reusing boxes and says your own boxes should be new or almost new, so a used carton you have kept is not automatically suitable as the outer box. The same guide places responsibility for packing on the shipper and gives no warranty.
This page gives no box size or padding thickness, because those depend on your packed weight, the size of the wrapped bundles and the service you choose. If you use a different carrier, follow that carrier's current guidance instead of the UPS points above.
Before you hand over a parcel that includes a stand, identify its batteries from the instructions for that stand. The current carrier battery guidance from UPS treats batteries as regulated items whose shipping requirements depend on their type and configuration, so ask your chosen carrier how to send the stand once you know what it holds. If you cannot identify the batteries, stop and check with the carrier or the stand's instructions before shipping. Do not guess, and do not assume that removing them settles the question.
Case B therefore has two open questions, and answering one does not answer the other. A packing service can wrap the glass and stand separately and choose an outer box, but that does not identify the stand's batteries. Settle both before the parcel leaves your hands.
Leave the recipient a clear unpacking handoff
List the components in the package and tell the recipient to find the small accessories before discarding the packing.
A short note inside the outer box is enough, for example: "Photo crystal and LED stand, wrapped separately; cable in the small bag." Name only what you actually packed.
Unpack on a clear, stable surface, lift the crystal out rather than sliding it, and keep the pieces apart until the glass is in place. Keep the original crystal box if it is still in good condition, since it is made for storage, but do not treat it as ready for another shipment.
If the glass or stand arrives visibly damaged, do not set it up as though it were undamaged. Contact the sender so they can raise it with the carrier they used. Our cover for problems with your original order does not automatically extend to a parcel someone sends on.
For display choices after unpacking, the LED stand and lighting guide explains the options; use the instructions for the actual stand for operation.
