Can You Add Text to a Photo Puzzle?
Last updated May 8, 2026
Yes, in three ways. Add text anywhere on your photo and it prints on both the puzzle and box lid. Place text only on a box version, keeping the puzzle clean. Or type a short dedication in the Notes field that prints alongside the photo on the box.
Three Ways to Add Text
The text gets onto your puzzle in one of three ways, depending on what tool you prefer to use:
- Pre-edit your photo yourself. Use any photo editor you already know - Canva, your phone's built-in editor, Photoshop, Pixlr - to overlay text on the photo before uploading. Whatever you upload is what we print.
- Use the Giftenova photo editor tool. The personalization form on the product page includes a built-in editor for adding text directly to your photo. Type the text, position it where you want it on the image, and proceed to checkout.
- Type your text in the Notes field. If you would rather not edit the photo yourself, upload the original and add your text as a note at checkout. We add it for you during production based on your instruction.

Where the Text Can Appear
Two dimensions decide where the text shows up on your finished gift: the position on the image, and which surface (puzzle, box, or both) carries the text.
Position on the image. Text can sit anywhere - top-center, bottom-center, top-left, top-right, near a face, beside the subject, along an edge, or any specific spot you mark in your edit or describe in the Notes field. Common placements: a wedding date below the couple in a wedding-day photo, a dedication along the bottom of a family portrait, or initials in a corner.
Which surface gets the text. Three options:
- On the photo for both puzzle and box. Text overlaid on the photo image prints on every puzzle piece that contains the text plus on the box lid (since both share the same image).
- On the box only. Upload one photo for the puzzle and a separate text-overlaid version for the box, so the puzzle stays text-free for the assembly experience while the box carries the personalization.
- As a separate dedication on the box lid. Type the text in the Notes field at checkout. It prints alongside the photo on the box lid only, never on the puzzle pieces.
Picking the Right Mode for Your Gift
The mode depends on what role the text plays in the gift. Three quick patterns:
- Text as part of the design. Wedding date, recipient's name, anniversary year. Pick the photo-overlay path so the text travels with the image onto both puzzle and box.
- Surprise reveal with personalization. A clean photo on the puzzle pieces lets the recipient experience the image fresh during assembly. Pick the box-only path so the puzzle stays unmarked while the box still feels personalized.
- Short dedication that does not belong on the design. "Happy 25th, Mom and Dad" or "Love, the kids." Pick the Notes-field path so the dedication prints alongside the photo on the box lid without altering the puzzle image.
