What makes a good print collage
A collage is only as sharp as its smallest, most-cropped photo. Zooming far into a single cell asks more pixels of that photo than it may have, so the layouts here let you see, cell by cell, how much of each photo you're using - swap in a higher-resolution shot for any cell that looks stretched, or pick a layout that gives that photo more room.
Photo count and layout matter together. A 2-photo hero layout can carry a lot of detail in the large cell, while a 9-photo grid gives every photo an equal, smaller share - great for a set of similar shots, less forgiving for one that's already tightly cropped. Try a few layouts for your photo count before settling on one.
When you pick a Giftenova product size instead of a generic ratio, the collage matches that product's real print dimensions, and any cell that would print below our sharpness floor gets flagged - so you know before you order, not after. Frequently asked questions
- Between 2 and 9. That range covers the layouts most people actually want - a pair side by side, a hero shot with supporting photos, or a full grid - without the picker turning into an unreadable wall of tiny cells.
- Pick a generic ratio (square, 3:4, 4:3, 5:7, 7:5, 2:3, 3:2) or any custom width-to-height ratio you type in, or choose one of our Giftenova product sizes so the collage matches a real print or product edge to edge. An orientation toggle swaps portrait and landscape for whichever ratio is active.
- Only if you choose to. Every photo is read, laid out, and exported entirely inside your browser, and nothing is uploaded while you're building the collage. If you use Shop Now to order a product made from the result, that finished collage is uploaded then, so we can print it.
- JPG, PNG, or WebP, added one at a time or several at once. Each photo is validated and decoded in your browser before it appears in the collage.
- Yes - spacing between cells, an outer margin, and rounded corners are all adjustable sliders, along with a background color that fills any gaps they leave. The final download is always a JPEG, so transparent areas in a PNG source photo are filled with that background color too.
- Yes - our Photo Collage Custom Puzzle is built for multi-photo layouts like the ones you make here. Download your collage, then use Shop Now to order it printed.
- When a Giftenova product size is selected, any cell whose assigned photo would print below our acceptable sharpness floor gets a small warning icon, and a line under the preview names the affected photos. Zooming out (less crop) or swapping in a higher-resolution photo usually clears it.
- A JPG at high quality (92%), sized to print resolution for the ratio you chose, named after the layout you picked.
