Custom Collage Puzzle: Multi-Photo Personalized Jigsaw
Last updated April 30, 2026
A collage puzzle is a personalized photo puzzle made from a multi-photo collage image you prepare yourself in any photo editor. Your finished collage prints across the puzzle as one image, cut into 99, 100 XL, 500, or 1000 interlocking pieces and shipped in a custom gift box. Best for year-in-review puzzles, multi-event weddings, family reunions, and tributes that need more than one frame.
What is a Collage Puzzle?
A collage puzzle is a custom photo jigsaw printed from a multi-photo collage image. Multiple photos are arranged into a single composition (a grid, a heart, a freeform layout) and that composition is printed across the puzzle's interlocking pieces as one continuous image. The puzzle assembles to reveal the full collage, just as a single-photo puzzle would reveal a single photo.
At Giftenova, the Photo Collage Custom Puzzle uses the same UV-printing and die-cut production as our standard puzzle line. The same four piece counts are available: 99 Pieces with Tube, 100 XL Pieces with Box, 500 Pieces with Box, and 1000 Pieces with Box. The collage layout is the customer's design; we print and cut.
The format differs from our standard single-photo custom puzzle in one key way. The single-photo puzzle is built around one image. The collage puzzle is built around a customer-prepared collage of several photos. Both produce a flat assembled jigsaw; the visual content is what changes.
How a Collage Puzzle Gets Made
Production follows a five-step flow from your photo editor to the finished gift box. The customer prepares the collage; Giftenova prints, cuts, and ships.
- Build the collage in any photo editor. Use Canva (free templates), your phone's built-in collage feature, Google Photos collage, or a simple grid template in Pages or Word. Aim for a 5:7 aspect ratio and 4 megapixels or higher resolution.
- Save as JPG or PNG. Export at the highest quality your tool offers. Avoid screenshotting or downsampling; the resolution of the saved file is what we print.
- Upload through the personalization form. The Photo Collage Custom Puzzle product page accepts your finished collage image as a single photo upload.
- Pick the piece count and add a dedication. 500 or 1000 work best for collages because the larger canvas keeps individual photos readable. Use the Notes field for a short box-lid dedication.
- We print, cut, and ship. Production takes 2-5 business days. Standard shipping adds 3-8 business days; express (UPS) adds 1-3.
Because the customer controls the collage layout, the printing flow skips the layout-proof step that a service-built collage would need. Your saved file is the print file.
Why a Collage Puzzle Lands as a Gift
A collage puzzle works as a gift because it preserves multiple memories in one keepsake instead of forcing you to pick a single best photo. Most photo gifts (single-photo prints, framed photos, single-photo puzzles) commit to one moment. A collage puzzle commits to a story arc.
Three patterns explain why this format outperforms single-photo gifts for specific occasions:
- Year-in-review keepsakes. A 12-photo grid covering one photo per month of a year produces a "this is what we did together" gift. Common for end-of-year holiday gifts, retirement gifts, and milestone anniversary recaps.
- Multi-event milestone puzzles. Wedding gifts often want engagement plus ceremony plus reception in one piece. A collage puzzle holds all three; a single-photo puzzle forces a choice.
- Multi-subject family gifts. Multi-grandkid puzzles for grandparents, multi-pet portraits, multi-friend gifts each work better as a collage than a forced single composition.
The right collage layout is the engine of all three. The next decision is which photos belong in the collage and how to arrange them.
Photo Choices for a Collage Puzzle
The right collage for a puzzle depends on the gift moment and the recipient. Year-in-review collages work for end-of-year gifts. Multi-event collages work for wedding and milestone-anniversary gifts.
Multi-subject collages work for family-reunion and grandparent gifts. Pick the angle, then build the collage around it.
Year-in-Review Collages
Year-in-review collages combine 6-12 photos across the past year, ideally one per month or one per major event. The 500 or 1000 piece counts work best because the larger canvas keeps each photo readable. Use a grid layout (3 by 2, 3 by 4, or 4 by 3) for a clean editorial feel. Pair with a "Our Year Together" or "[Year] in Review" dedication on the box lid.
Multi-Event Wedding and Anniversary Collages
Multi-event wedding collages often combine engagement, ceremony, reception, and honeymoon photos into one piece. A heart-shaped collage layout (photos clustered into a heart silhouette) suits this category, as does a grid with the wedding-day photo as the larger central tile. The 1000-piece count is common for milestone anniversaries because the finished puzzle frames as wall art at 19 by 27 inches.
Multi-Subject Family-Reunion Collages
Multi-subject family-reunion collages combine portraits of each branch of the family, or multi-grandkid grids for grandparents. The 100 XL or 500 piece counts work for these because the recipients (often grandparents) appreciate the easier handling. Use a grid that gives every face equal weight rather than a hero-photo composition.
Tribute and Memorial Collages
Tribute and memorial collages preserve multiple photos of someone who has passed: childhood, family-life, milestone moments. The slow assembly process makes the puzzle a deliberate way to revisit the memories. Use a grid or freeform layout; avoid overly busy compositions that crowd individual photos.
Once you have the collage planned, the next decision is the piece count.
Piece Counts for a Collage Puzzle
The right piece count for a collage puzzle depends on how many photos you want included and how readable each face needs to be. Larger piece counts give more canvas space per photo, which preserves detail. Smaller piece counts compress the collage, which works for fewer photos but breaks down quickly with too many.
99 Pieces with Tube (2-4 Photos)
The 99-piece pocket version holds 2 to 4 photos in a tight collage. Best for small two-event combinations (engagement plus ceremony, before plus after). The card-size finished print limits photo count; more than 4 photos crowd individual faces beyond recognition.
100 XL Pieces with Box (3-5 Photos)
The 100 XL count holds 3 to 5 photos comfortably. The XL piece size makes assembly easy for grandparents or kids, but the finished canvas is similar in scale to the 99-piece, so photo count stays low. Best for family-portrait grids and small multi-subject collages.
500 Pieces with Box (Up to 7 Photos)
The 500-piece count is our most-recommended collage size. Up to 7 photos fit cleanly with each face readable in the finished puzzle. The 13.5 by 19 inch finished size frames at desk or shelf scale.
1000 Pieces with Box (Up to 7 Photos, Maximum Detail)
The 1000-piece count uses the same 7-photo recommendation as the 500. The finished canvas is roughly twice as large (19 by 27 inches), so each face prints at maximum detail. Best for milestone-anniversary gifts, year-in-review puzzles where the family wants a wall-art outcome, and any gift where the recipient will frame the finished puzzle.
For all four counts, the recommendation is the same when our team builds the layout: up to 7 photos. If you want to include more than 7 photos, build the collage yourself and we print whatever you upload. See our photo puzzle piece count guide for the side-by-side comparison.
Collage Puzzle vs Single-Photo Puzzle
The collage puzzle and the standard single-photo puzzle use the same product mechanic and the same four piece counts. The difference is what gets printed across the pieces: one photo or a customer-prepared collage of several. Pick the format that matches the gift's story arc.
| Dimension | Collage Puzzle | Single-Photo Puzzle |
|---|---|---|
| Source content | Customer-prepared collage (any photo editor) | One photo, uploaded as is |
| Photo count | 2-7 typical, more if you build it yourself | 1 |
| Layout control | Customer (Canva, phone collage, Google Photos) | Giftenova handles cropping |
| Best for | Year-in-review, multi-event milestones, family reunions | Single hero photo, focused gifts |
| Same piece counts | 99 / 100 XL / 500 / 1000 | 99 / 100 XL / 500 / 1000 |
| Layout proof step | None (your design = print file) | None (single photo as is) |
Pick the collage puzzle when the gift's story has multiple chapters worth preserving. Pick the single-photo puzzle when one specific photo carries the whole gift. For a different mechanic entirely, see our photo block puzzle guide for click-together brick photo decor as a 3D alternative. How to Order Your Collage Puzzle
Ordering a collage puzzle takes about ten minutes once you have your photos selected. Most of that time is in the photo editor; the upload itself is instant.
- Pick your photos. Pull originals from your camera roll. Avoid downsampled social-media exports. Each photo on the collage gets less canvas than a single-photo print, so source resolution matters more on collages than on standard puzzles.
- Build the collage. Use Canva, your phone's collage feature, Google Photos, or any photo editor. Aim for 5:7 aspect ratio and 4 megapixels or higher final resolution. Grid, heart, and freeform layouts all work; pick what fits the photos and the occasion.
- Save as JPG or PNG. Export at maximum quality. The saved file is what we print.
- Upload through the product page. Visit the Photo Collage Custom Puzzle page, select your piece count (500 or 1000 recommended for collages), and upload the finished collage as one photo through the personalization form.
- Add a dedication and check out. Use the Notes field for a short box-lid message. Production takes 2-5 business days; the cart shows realistic delivery dates for your address. For occasion-specific timing (Christmas, Father's Day), see the Christmas guide and Father's Day guide for ordering deadlines.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many photos can I include in a collage puzzle?
We recommend up to 7 photos for clean readability on a 500 or 1000 piece puzzle. The 99 and 100 XL counts are best for 2 to 5 photos. Beyond 7 photos, the individual faces start crowding each other; the smaller piece counts amplify this issue.
What collage layouts work best on a puzzle?
Grid layouts (uniform tiles arranged in rows) print cleanest because the photos read as a planned design. Heart-shaped clusters work for romantic and anniversary gifts. Freeform mixed-size layouts work if there is one clear hero photo and the rest support it. Avoid layouts where photos overlap heavily or one face is much smaller than the others.
What photo quality do I need for a collage puzzle?
4 megapixels or higher for the finished collage image. Each individual photo inside the collage gets less canvas space than a single-photo print would, so the source resolution of every photo in the collage matters. Pull originals from your camera roll rather than downsampled social-media exports.
Which piece count is best for a collage puzzle?
The 500 and 1000 piece counts are the most-recommended for collages because the larger finished canvas keeps every face readable. The 99-piece pocket version works for tight 2-4 photo collages. The 100 XL is the middle option for 3-5 photo collages with easy-to-handle pieces.
Can I have your team build the collage for me?
No, we print the collage you upload. The product is set up for customers to build the collage themselves in any photo editor. If you need help, email support@giftenova.com with your idea and we will point you to a free tool and a layout that fits.
How long does a collage puzzle take to ship?
Production takes 2-5 business days from the moment we receive your collage image. Standard shipping adds 3-8 business days; express (UPS) adds 1-3. Most US orders arrive within two weeks of placement.
Can I include photos from different events or years?
Yes. Mixed-source collages are the most common collage puzzle pattern. Wedding collages combine engagement, ceremony, and reception.
Year-in-review collages span 12 months. Milestone-anniversary collages reach back across decades. Build the collage with whichever photos fit the story.
Can I return a collage puzzle?
Because each puzzle is printed from your collage image, we cannot accept change-of-mind returns. If a puzzle arrives damaged or has a printing fault, message us at support@giftenova.com within 7 days of delivery and we will remake or refund.
